Exercise at home during Coronavirus with Nike Apps and Apple Watch

How we exercise has been impacted by home isolation requirements due to COVID-19. Gyms have been forced to close in many parts of Australia. And group outdoor training sessions have essentially come to a stop. However, it is important we still exercise, after all its also great for our mental health and wellbeing.

I, like many, have turned to Apps to discover ways we can exercise from home. And recently I have come across two Apps – Nike Training Club and Nike Run Club.

Out of all the apps I’ve tried in the past, these two have got me exercising from home each day. Why? Well, I believe it has a lot to do with a personalised fitness plan they created. Then, a virtual assistant coach ‘coaches’ me through each session. Therefore, I’m finding I don’t give up as easy.

In addition to the Apps, I wear an Apple Watch to track my fitness. Wearing it also provides essential health information in realtime, such as my Heart Rate. Best of all, both Nike apps are compatible with Apple Watch.

Nike Trainer Club app

For a limited time, the Nike Trainer Club app is free – and is how I discovered it in the first place. Usually, a subscription to it is priced at around A$180 a year. So now is a good opportunity to try the app out and see if it works for you.

What I like about this App is the ability to create a plan. I was able to set a goal, whether I had any exercising equipment, and how often I wanted to workout. Right now I am in progress with an 8-week ‘Lean Fit’ plan which requires me to do a particular workout on a given day.

All up there are 201 workouts to choose – from Yoga to mood-boosting, Abs, Arms, and Glutes, and more.

Nike Run Club App

Next up is the Nike Run Club app which is free to download and use. Each afternoon I go for a run and while doing so, I am being ‘coached’ through it (wireless earphones will help here). There are all sorts of challenges and guided runs. There is even a ‘Stress-Free Run’ – a 25 minute run with Andy Puddicombe of the popular app Headspace. Along with Nike’s coach Bennett.

However, be sure to check with local laws and regulations in regards to being able to exercise outside of your home during COVID-19.

Links and Apple Watch

There are many fitness apps out there, but I can highly recommend the two Nike fitness apps. They can be downloaded from the App Store as follows:

Meanwhile, Apple Watch can be purchased from Apple’s online store. There’s even an Apple Watch Nike edition. With exclusive Watch bands and watch faces, a new Always-On Retina display, and the Nike Run Club app to take you further.
