Apple has today released iOS 13.4, a free software update for compatible iPhone models. And for iPad models, iPadOS 13.4 bringing trackpad and mouse support, providing an all-new way to interact with iPad.
The two updates have been undergoing testing over the past few months by developers and Public Beta testers. And includes a lot of bug fixes (which is always great), but some new features.
New Features
Key new additions include:
- Sharing iCloud Drive files and folders from the Files app
- Additional emoji
- New Memoji stickers
- Mail App: Always-visible controls to delete, move, reply to, or compose a message in conversation view
- The ability for a purchased app to be able to be used across iPhone, iPad, Apple TV, and Mac (Up to the developer)
Though, perhaps the most significant new addition is for iPad – trackpad support. With an all-new cursor design which highlights app icons on the Home Screen, dock, and buttons and controls in apps.
Trackpad Support
The expanded universal Trackpad support was unveiled by Apple last week during the unveiling of the new iPad Pro. Plus a new keyboard called the Magic Trackpad for iPad, compatible with new and selected previous iPad Pro models.
Also supported, is the Magic Mouse, Magic Mouse 2, Magic Trackpad, and Magic Trackpad 2. And third-party Bluetooth and USB mouse-enabled products.
Apple also goes on to confirm new Multi-Touch gestures on the Magic Keyboard for iPad and Magic Trackpad 2. Enabeling you to scroll, swipe between app spaces, go Home, access App Switcher, zoom in or out, tap to click, secondary click (right-click), and swipe between pages.
