iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro (which also includes iPhone 11 Pro Max) are the newest-generation models of iPhone. Both include very similar features, Face ID for unlocking and authentication and run the iOS 13. And both have been positively rated around the world. But there are some key variations.
What are the differences between iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro? It’s a question so common Apple has put together a helpful “help me choose” page on its website.
Below I’ve summarised their information, plus added more such as pricing. This should make deciding which one to buy easier – particularly if you’re buying for Christmas.
Cameras
A big focus of the new models is the cameras because Apple has gone all out. Regardless of which you buy, all have great cameras. Both capture amazing detailed photos including in low-light with a new night mode. And video in up to 4K.
The main difference comes down to the lens and the number of them. The iPhone 11 has two of them, iPhone 11 Pro has three – an Ultra-wide, Wide, and Telephoto. By having three you have more options when it comes to capturing photos/videos.
Battery Life
You can expect the “all-day” battery from all models, starting with up to 17 hours of video playback on iPhone 11. This increases to 18 hours on iPhone 11 Pro and 20 hours on iPhone 11 Pro Max.
These models have the longest battery life of any iPhone previously released.
Display
The size of the display (measured diagonally) varies between all three models: 6.1-inches on iPhone 11, 5.8-inches on iPhone 11 Pro, and a huge 6.5-inches on iPhone 11 Pro Max.
There is a difference in the display technology used between the iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. LCD is used to create the display for iPhone 11, while iPhone 11 Pro uses OLED, a newer technology.
OLED results in a thinner display, therefore phone. It is brighter, displays true blacks, more detail, and more.
Appearance
Design of both models are quite similar and practically have the same shape and form factor. But there is a big difference in materials, finish, and colours.
Aluminium and glass are used for the iPhone 11 and is available in six colours including Purple, Yellow, Green, Black, White, and Red.
On the other hand, iPhone 11 Pro is created from stainless steel of surgical grade and glass. And the back has a matt finish. Colour options include Midnight Green, Silver, Space Grey, and Gold.
Water-resistance
iPhone 11 is water-resistant to a depth of 2 metres for 30 minutes. And it stands up to spills from coffee, tea, soft drinks and more.
iPhone 11 Pro shrugs off all the same spills. But we double the water-resistance to a depth of 4 metres for 30 minutes.

Summary
Paying for the “Pro” gives you a third lens, a better brighter display, and higher quality materials for the finish. Battery life is also longer. Overall the iPhone 11 Pro is a more premium phone.
If you are passionate about photography, the third lens will likely appeal to you. Otherwise, you can’t go wrong with the iPhone 11.
