New AirPods
From the outside, the design remains unchanged over the first generation. However, a new H1 Chip inside, which was specifically designed for wireless headphones, brings a number of new enhancements. These include:
- 50% more talk-time
- Faster switching between devices while listening to music is up to 2x faster
- Hands-free “Hey Siri”
Apple goes on to explain the H1 chip features custom audio architecture to “create a revolutionary audio experience and improved synchronisation”. It is also responsible for allowing hands-free “Hey Siri” for the first time. This will allow you to speak to Siri wirelessly to, for example, change music, send messages, ask for directions, adjust volume, and more.
“Hey Siri, play something I will like”
Another first, the option to buy AirPods with a Wireless Charging Case. All new AirPods still come with a standard charging case that holds enough charge for 24-hours of listening time. But the new Wireless Charging Case enabled you to wirelessly charge it with Qi-compatible charging solutions. It will also be compatible with Apple’s long-awaited AirPower wireless charging pad. Apple is also making the new case available for purchase separately, and it’s compatible with previous AirPods.
