Apple has announced a line-up of official Apple-designed battery cases for the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR. Giving your iPhone increased battery life with wireless charging and more. In what is their first new product release for 2019.
The Smart Battery Case for iPhone has been designed and engineered by Apple. It is essentially their silicone case with an additional built-in battery. The cases feature a silky soft-silicone exterior and a microfibre lining on the inside to protect the iPhone inside and out.
Qi-certification has been added to the cases for the first time, making them compatible with wireless charging. Apple goes on to say “You can charge your iPhone and battery case simultaneously” – neat!
Battery Life
Most importantly, increased battery life is what these cases offer. Simply put the case on and your iPhone will be powered from the built-in battery before using its own.
Apple states battery life is increased up to:
- 33 hours of talk time on iPhone XS
- 37 hours of talk time on iPhone XS Max
- 39 hours of talk time on iPhone XR
- 21 hours of internet on iPhone XS
- 20 hours of internet on iPhone XS Max
- 22 hours of internet on iPhone XS Max
- 25 hours of video playback on iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max
- 27 hours of video playback on iPhone XR
Your iPhone will also display a dedicated battery indicator in notification centre and the lock-screen while on. Showing how much battery is left in the case.
Pricing
In Australia, the Smart Battery Case is priced at an RRP of A$199 with GST included. There are models compatible with the new iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, and iPhone XR and are all available in either Black or White.
