In addition to the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, Apple today announced a brand new iPhone model called the iPhone XR. An iPhone that integrates the same technology from the iPhone XS in an aluminium design – in six colours.
It will be available for pre-order from October 19th, and available in stores and online in Australia on Friday the 26th of October, 2018.
iPhone XR
The purpose of the iPhone XR, in Apple’s words, is to “reach even more people with the latest iPhone innovations.” It features much of the technology that is inside the new iPhone XS. Including the A12 Bionic Chip, FaceID, All-screen display, and iOS 12.
It is packed with the newest technologies including a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display that goes edge to edge, the latest TrueDepth camera with faster Face ID authentication, new 7-nanometer A12 Bionic chip with second-generation Neural Engine and a 12-megapixel camera that takes advanced Portrait mode and Portrait Lighting photos,” – Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.
There are some slight differences between the iPhone XR and iPhone XS range.
Firstly, the display is 6.1-inches and while it is an all-screen design, it uses LCD technology rather than OLED. Secondly, rather than using the same dual-lens system, the camera is an advanced single lens camera that features a 12-megapixel f/1.8 aperture wide-angle lens. But it is still capable of achieving portrait photos with the bokeh effect, has excellent low-light performance and more.
In addition to this, the iPhone XR has a larger range of colours. In fact, it will be available in six colours including PRODUCT (Red), Yellow, White, Coral, Black, and Blue. Apple is using a seven-layer colour process that gives the glass back nuanced hues, and a colour matching aluminium band and camera trim.
