Alongside updates to the MacBook Pro range, Apple has begun selling an external GPU that provides additional graphic performance. And is available for purchase worldwide from Apple including in Australia.
Blackmagic eGPU is a product which has been designed to give MacBook Pro models desktop-class graphics performance. Numbers indicate 2.8x faster graphics performance on the 15-inch MacBook Pro and 8x faster on 13-inch models. A significant increase, particularly for the 13-inch range.

An eGPU is an external graphics processing unit, which macOS now supports. Blackmagic eGPU features an Radeon Pro 580 graphics processor with 8GB of GDDR5 memory, two Thunderbolt 3 ports, four USB 3 ports, and one HDMI 2.0 port. These additional ports allow you to plug in additional products, even the LG 5K Retina Display.
The Blackmagic eGPU can be purchased from Apple online exclusively, with Apple stating it is a product sold ‘only at Apple’. Pricing in Australia is A$1,149 which includes GST. All orders include free delivery or pick-up and 14 day free returns.
