Apple Adds 4K HDR Movies Section In iTunes

Apple TV 4K Australia

With the new Apple TV 4K supporting 4K HDR, Apple has added a new section to the Australian iTunes Store showcasing movies that are available in the new format for either rent or purchase.

The section is broken into a number of lists including new releases, action & adventure, drama, comedy, kids & family, and lastly a list which shows “All 4K Movies”. At the time of writing some new releases available in 4K include Wonder Woman, Logan, Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them, and more.

4K HDR Movies iTunes Australia

All 4K HDR movies on the iTunes store are priced the same as the HD version and all existing purchases are automatically upgraded at no extra cost.

What Is 4K HDR

When you watch a movie in 4K HDR you get four times as many pixels as you do with HD. This means the movie is sharper, crisper while HDR (which stands for High dynamic range) delivers colours which are brighter, richer, and more true to life.

Apple TV 4K

The new Apple TV 4K is now available for purchase at a starting price of A$249. You can purchase it from Apple online with free delivery or pick-up and 14-day returns.

  1. If I access the 4k movie section/page in the iTunes store from my mac, the movies in the 4k section are HD or SD.
If I access the same 4k movie section in the iTunes store from my iPad pro, the same movies have the 4k icon. What gives? It would be great to get this sorted out before my new Apple TV 4K arrives.

    1. Hi Scott,

I too was a bit confused about this as well but it seems Apple has since posted an article on their website confirming some details since I wrote this article. It seems you cannot download 4K movies and they will only stream when you have an Apple TV 4K connected to a 4K TV.
