Apple Unveils 16-inch MacBook Pro, their most powerful notebook yet

Apple has taken the wraps off its newest and most powerful notebook yet – the 16-inch MacBook Pro. Featuring a larger Retina display, up to 80% faster performance, and a new Magic Keyboard.

The 16-inch MacBook Pro has been designed and engineered to be the best notebook computer for those who require the best in technology. From filmmakers, developers, music producers, and so on.

To meet the needs Apple has given the new MacBook Pro a big boost in several areas. From the display, keyboard, processors, graphics, and more.

“With its brilliant 16-inch Retina display, 8-core processors, next-gen pro graphics, even better thermal design, new Magic Keyboard, six-speaker sound system, 100Wh battery, up to 8TB of storage and 64GB of fast memory, the 16-inch MacBook Pro is the world’s best pro notebook.”

Tom Boger, Apple’s senior director of Mac and iPad Product Marketing

Key features and additions of the new MacBook are as follows:

  • Larger 16-inch Retina Display (previously 15-inch)
  • 500 Nits with P3 colour gamut
  • 3072×1920 resolution with a higher PPI of 226
  • Each pixel (nearly 6 million in total) has been individually calibrated

New Magic Keyboard

The previous keyboard hasn’t exactly been perfect. So much so, Apple is running a Keyboard replacement program. With the 16-inch MacBook Pro, Apple has completely refined its keyboard. And they are calling it the ‘Magic Keyboard’. And it features:

  • A refined scissor mechanism
  • 1mm of key travel
  • Apple-designed rubber domes that stores more energy
  • Dedicated physical Escape (ESC) key next to the Touch Bar
  • A comfortable, satisfying and quiet typing experience

Extensive user research and studies have gone into the new design. And it seems Apple is confident the keyboard issues are over. The new model has not been added into the replacement program.

Thermal Design

  • Most advanced thermal architecture yet
  • 28% increase in airflow
  • 35% larger heatsink
  • Significantly more airflow

Performance and Graphics

As one would expect, pro-level processors and graphics have been given a huge boost in the new model. Each model now comes with a 9th-generation processor, next-generation graphics, faster memory. Starting Solid State Storage of each has been doubled to 512GB and 1TB – and can be configured to an insane 8TB!

  • 6 and 8-core processors with 5.0Ghz Turbo Boost
  • Faster memory of up to 64GB
  • AMD Radeon Pro 5000M series graphics — the first 7nm mobile discrete GPUs
  • Up to 8GB in GPU memory offering 80% faster graphics
  • 512GB and 1TB storage standard
  • Configure up to 8TB of built-in storage

The result of faster processors, memory, and graphics is the new model being 2.1 times faster then the previous 15-inch MacBook Pro. And up to 80% faster in graphics performance when configured with the high-end dedicated graphics GPU.

Higher Fidelity Audio Experience

  • Completely redesigned six-speaker, high-fidelity sound system
  • Apple-patented force-cancelling woofers use dual opposed speaker drivers to reduce unwanted vibrations that distort sound
  • Music sounds more clear and natural than ever before, and the bass can go half an octave deeper
  • Upgraded high-performance mic array delivers a 40% reduction in hiss and an improved signal-to-noise ratio
