Apple To Hold Free Art-based Augumented Reality Sessions

AR Art in the Apple Store session with iPhone

Apple has unveiled [AR]T, free art-based augmented reality Today at Apple sessions. Three interactive events, curated in partnership with the New Museum and held at Apple Stores. With registrations now open for anyone to attend from August 11th, 2019.

Creating the sessions involved Apple asking New Museum, a leading destination in New York for contemporary art to select seven artists. The seven selected artists include: Nick Cave, Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg, Cao Fei, John Giorno, Carsten Höller, and Pipilotti.

Designed by Today at Apple, [AR]T brings together artists and curators, filmmakers and educators, in a collaborative initiative that pushes the creative potential of augmented reality.

Works by these artists can be viewed via augmented reality (AR) during an interactive walk called [AR]Walk. While [AR]T Lab, in-store sessions will teach the basics of creating augmented reality. And lastly, [AR]T in the Apple Store, an AR art installation viewable in every Apple Store.

Sessions in Australia

In Australia, two of the three sessions will be available – [AR]T Lab and [AR]T in the Apple Store. Unfortunately, we do miss out on [AR]T Walk as these are going to be held in Hong Kong, London, New York, Paris, San Francisco and Tokyo.

Details on the two sessions available in Australia are as follows:

  • [AR]T Lab: In this Lab, attendees get hands-on with whimsical objects and sounds created by Rothberg to learn how to code their own AR experiences using Swift Playgrounds.
  • [AR]T at the Apple Store – Come into any Apple Store and experience artist Nick Cave’s beautiful, intricate AR artwork Amass. Using the [AR]T Viewer in the Apple Store app, you’ll go on a journey to collect Ikon Elements and experience a universe of positive energy right in the middle of an Apple Store.

The [AR]T sessions are part of Today at Apple, free educational sessions held by Apple. To attend a [AR]T session, or for more information, head over to Apple’s website. Sessions begin August 10th.
