Hot Wheels began innovating their die-cast vehicle play experience over 50 years ago. Many of us (myself included) grew up spending hours racing Hot Wheels cars around a track in a physical play experience. But today many kids are playing games in the digital world.
Mattel has unveiled a groundbreaking new system called Hot Wheels id that combines the physical and digital world. To achieve this it has been designed to keep the physical toy at the core of the gameplay. But adds a digital enhancement. And it is now available for purchase in Australia, exclusively at Apple.
Hot Wheels id
How it works is quite simple. For the first time, kids can digitally scan physical Hot Wheels id cars into a free App. As the cars race around the track they have the ability to measure and clock speed, count laps and measure distance within the app. This enables challenges both physically and digitally.
Each vehicle is equipped with wireless technology that stores each vehicle’s performance data and makes them uniquely identifiable. Within the app, kids can create a virtual garage of their collection of cars.
A new smart track – Smart Track Kit has also been introduced. An all-new Hot Wheels track design to boost speed and enhance racing. As well as jumping and crashing, while also adding total distance travelled to your vehicle.
The Hot Wheels id lineup includes:

Pricing and Availability
In Australia, Hot Wheels id can be purchased exclusively from Apple’s online store. The Smart Track is priced at a recommended retail price (RRP) of A$299.95 while the price portal costs A$79.95. A range of Racer vehicles is available at just A$10.95 each.
