Apple has revealed customers spent a massive US$1.22 billion on the App Store. While New Year day 2019 set a new single-day record for the most downloads and spending.
Between Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve, customers spent US$1.22 billion on the App Store. Including on Apps and Games for iOS (iPhone and iPad) and the Mac. While on New Year’s Day for 2019, more than US$322 million was spent – the most for a single day.
Phil Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing went on to say:
“Thanks to the inspiring work of our talented developers and the support of our incredible customers around the world, the App Store finished off an outstanding 2018 and kicked off 2019 with a bang.”.
Apple also confirmed some other interesting details. The most popular category of app downloads and subscriptions were Gaming and self-care. While multiplayer games Fortnite and PUBG were the most popular games. Along with Brawl Stars, Asphalt 9 and Monster Strike. At the beginning of 2019, Productivity, Health & Fitness and Education apps have all seen an increase in popularity.
The App Store is part of Apple’s Services which helped drive Services revenue to an all-time record in the holiday quarter. Other services from Apple include Apple Music, Cloud Services, Apple Pay and the App Store’s search ad business.
