Christmas Buyers Guide 2018: iPhone

The iPhone by far is one of the most popular gifts every Christmas with millions sold around the world. This season Apple has three new iPhone models to choose from, joining the iPhone 8 and iPhone 7 in the iPhone line-up. So which one to buy?

The purpose of this guide is to give you a summary of each iPhone. Therefore hopefully will make it easier to know which iPhone to buy for Christmas this year.

iPhone Models

The three new iPhone models are the iPhone XR, iPhone XS, and iPhone XS Max. These join the previous generation, but still available iPhone 8 and iPhone 7.

While all vary slightly in features and of course, price, it is important to know one thing. They all are capable of running apps, games, the same version of iOS, have great cameras, and more. No iPhone is a bad iPhone.

I have however summarised each iPhone below including their starting price in Australia.

New iPhone XR

From RRP A$1,229 inc. GST

The new iPhone XR is set to be one of the most popular choices this Christmas. This is because it combines the newest technology seen in the higher-end iPhone XS but at a cheaper price point. Perfect for those who want the best iPhone possible without breaking the bank.

iPhone XR includes a large 6.1-inch LCD display, the same A12 Bionic Chip in the XS/XS Max, Face ID, and powerful cameras. Perhaps best of all, it is available in 6 vivid colours.

  • 6.1-inch Liquid Retina HD LCD display
  • 12-megapixel wide-angle camera
  • 7-megapixel TrueDepth camera
  • Face ID for secure authentication and Apple Pay
  • A12 Bionic chip with next-generation Neural Engine
  • Wireless charging

New iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max

From RRP A$1,629 (iPhone XS) and RRP A$1,799 (iPhone XS Max)

These are the high-end iPhone models featuring the best in technology in a premium design. Perfect for those who love cutting-edge technology, want the best of the best cameras, and large displays.

These iPhones also include the A12 Bionic chip, Face ID, and an all-screen design as seen with the iPhone XR. But the display is OLED rather than LCD – a newer type of display technology. The camera in the back is also dual-lens offering incredible photo and video features. Then there is the design which calls for durable glass front and back. And surgical stainless steel around the edges.

So what is the difference between the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max? Nothing but the size of the display. The display on the iPhone XS is 5.8-inch which the iPhone XS Max comes in a 6.5-inches. The largest display in an iPhone.

  • Silver, Space Grey, and Gold
  • 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch Super Retina HD display
