HomePod Gains New Features With Software Update

HomePod, an Apple-designed speaker for the home has received a number of new features with a free software update. Allowing you to do more with Siri, Apple’s voice assistant built into HomePod.

Search for music by lyrics, set multiple timers, and even make or receive phone calls. Siri on HomePod will also learn of your customisable Siri Shortcuts, a new feature to iOS 12 on iPhone and iPad.

  • Search by lyrics – for example, “Hey Siri, play that song that goes ‘I’m a rebel just for kicks now”.
  • Set multiple timers – perfect during cooking
  • Make and receive phone calls – automatically directed from iPhone to HomePod, simply ask Siri to answer the phone

This update one of many software updates HomePod has received over the past number of months. Previous updates include Siri being able to read the news and play radio stations, plus, the release of AirPlay 2, Apple’s multi-room audio technology. That particular update allowed two HomePods to be paired together to create stereo sound that fills your entire room.
