Apple Unveils iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max

iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max in Gold

Today at their Special Event, Apple has revealed their most advanced iPhone models ever. Called the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max, they feature 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch all-screen displays, a new dual camera system and A12 Chip, and lots more

Both of which will be available for pre-order this Friday, and in stores and online in Australia on Friday, the 21st of September.

What’s New

From the outside, the new iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max carries the same design as the previous model iPhone X (Which is no longer on sale). With its all-screen front display, dual-lens camera, FaceID, glass backing, and surgical grade stainless steel band.

“iPhone Xs is packed with next-generation technologies and is a huge step forward for the future of the smartphone. Everything is state of the art including the industry-first 7-nanometer A12 Bionic chip with 8-core Neural Engine, faster Face ID and an advanced dual camera system that shoots Portrait mode photos with Smart HDR and dynamic depth of field,” – Philip Schiller, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

However, it is what is inside the phone that has changed dramatically, and for the first time, there is an iPhone XS Max with a larger 6.5-inch Display – the largest display in an iPhone.

While I will look into these new iPhone models in more detail in the future, here are a summary of changes:

  • OLED 5.8-inch and 6.5-inch Displays with support for Dolby Vision and HDR10
  • A12 Bionic chip that features a six-core fusion architecture with two performance cores that are up to 15% faster, four efficiency cores that are up to 50% more efficient, a four-core GPU that is up to 50% faster, and more
  • 512 GB storage size option
  • Camera sensor that is twice as fast
  • Larger and deeper pixels for better image fidelity and low-light performance.
  • Faster FaceID, the most advanced facial authentication system
  • Dual SIM (Physical + eSIM) and Gigabit LTE/4G
  • iOS 12 at launch, and lots more

The only differences between the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max are the size of the display, therefore the physical size of the iPhone. The XS has a 5.8-inch display while the XS Max has a larger 6.5-inch display.
