Sonos, who is known for some of the best wireless speakers for the home has officially enabled AirPlay 2 support to a range of their speakers. This enables users to wireless send music from a range of Apple devices to their Sonos speakers around their home.

Here you can learn more about AirPlay 2, which Sonos speakers currently support it, and where you can buy in Australia.

AirPlay 2

AirPlay 2 is a new feature which arrived in iOS 11.4 that is all about multi-room audio. It allows you to wirelessly stream audio (including music) from your iPhone or iPad to multiple AirPlay 2-enabled speakers around your home.

As an example, you have one Sonos speaker in the bedroom and one in the living room. You will be able to play one song in the bedroom, and a second in the living room. Or play a song on both speakers at the exact same time – filling your home with audio.

Siri

AirPlay 2 also works with Siri, Apple’s voice assistant. This essentially brings Siri support to a range of Sonos speakers. You can now ask Siri things like “Hey Siri, play Beats 1 Radio in the bedroom.”, or “Hey Siri, turn up the volume in the living room”.

Compatible Speakers

The new Sonos Beam, Sonos One, Playbase, and the second-generation Play:5 speakers all now work with AirPlay 2. This is thanks to a free software update released today. The Sonos One speaker is one of the cheapest AirPlay 2 speakers currently available in Australia. It can be purchased from Amazon Australia at a price of just A$299.
