Apple Launches Keyboard Service Program for MacBook and MacBook Pro

Apple has quietly launched a new Keyboard Service Program which covers a number of MacBook models for up to 4 years from purchase. While refunds are being made to those who have paid for the issue to be fixed in the past.

Keyboard Service Program

According to the program, Apple has determined a small percentage of keyboards can experience behaviours that include:

  • Letters or characters repeat unexpectedly
  • Letters or characters do not appear
  • Key(s) feel “sticky” or do not respond in a consistent manner

Apple or an Authorised Service Center will service the keyboard free of charge. This could involve replacement keys or the entire keyboard being replaced.

Eligible Models

The program covers a range of 12-inch MacBook and 13-inch/15-inch MacBook Pro models. It also includes MacBook Pro models with Touch Bar and Touch ID. Eligible models include:

  • MacBook (Retina, 12-­inch, Early 2015, 2016 and 2017)
  • MacBook Pro (13­-inch, 2016 and 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (13-­inch, 2016 and 2017, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports)
  • MacBook Pro (15-­inch, 2016 and 2017)

To identify your computer’s model and to see if it is eligible for this program, choose Apple (?) menu > About This Mac.
