Apple Releases Mac Pro With Better Processors and Graphics

Apple Australia has quietly updated the hardware in current generation Mac Pro models. All models sold today include better Intel Processors and Dual graphics with a starting price of A$4,599.

The entry level Mac Pro model now includes a 6-core Intel Xeon E5 processor, up from the previous quad-core. Also upgraded is the dual graphics included standard with an increase to an AMD FirePro D500. These include 3GB of GDDR5 VRAM each.

The second Mac Pro model sees its processor jump from a 6-core to an 8-core. The graphics too have been updated to a Dual AMD FirePro D700 with 6GB GDDR5 VRAM each.

The Mac Pro is Apple’s professional desktop Mac and is not to be confused with the new MacBook Pro, Apple’s professional notebook line. The new MacBook Pro was announced last October.

Pricing

The entry level Mac Pro is available to buy in Australia from Apple online for A$4,899. The second model is priced at A$6,499. Both models include free delivery or pick-up and 14-day free returns, however, at the time of writing only the entry level model is in stock.

Eligible students, teachers, and staff can save up to A$460 off a new Mac Pro with Apple’s Educational Pricing Offer. With pricing at A$4,599 and A$6,039.

  1. Now that the 6-core is the base model, has there been a price reduction from the previously available 6-core offering?

    1. In the past when Apple have replaced a product with a new model they have put the previous model on their refurbished store.

Unfortunately, at this stage, there are no Mac Pro models in stock. I cannot remember the last time there were any.
