Apple Launches ‘Apps For Earth’ Campaign, Raises Money To Support WWF

Apple Environment 2016

Apple have kicked off a new campaign on the App Store which sees 100% of the proceeds of participating apps until April 24th go to the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), a vital global conversation program to make the earth a better place. This comes as Earth Day is held soon on April 22nd, which is a day where events are held worldwide to demonstrate support for environmental protection.

Our planet needs you. Your part is easy – and fun. From now until 24 April, 100% of the proceeds from participating apps and In-App Purchases support WWF’s vital global conversation work. Together, our small actions will make a big change. – Apple

Participating apps are heavily featured on the App Store on the iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, which all have been updated with a temporary green or blue icon, along with some launching new special features and in-app purchases for the event. For example VSCO, a very popular photo editing app has been updated to include special limited edition WWF preset filters which enhance natural settings and is ideal for landscapes/wildlife photography with 100% of the proceeds from this in-app purchase going to WWF.

Another popular app, SimCity BuildIt has launched a new In-App purchase which allows you to build and help preserve life with lush forests, ocean preserves and wildlife habitats to your city as well as the ability to protect whales and dolphins along your shoreline, and more.

Apple and the Environment

This promotion comes as Apple announced their 2016 Environmental Report [PDF] showing how they’re working to leave the environment better than ever.

Apple are bringing the same innovation seen in their products to helping the environment including developing a robot called Liam. Liam is a new line of robots designed by Apple to take apart 1.2million iPhones every year into individual components, making it easier to recover nite resources such as aluminium, gold, and cobalt.
